The Lindisfarne raid was a raid on a small Northumbrian island which was home to many rich monastery's which were easy pickings for the Norse. it was however by no means the first raid in England, as just a few years prior three Norse ships landed off the coast of Wessex and killed the kings reeve who as sen to bring them to the West Saxon court. but what made the Lindisfarne raid memorable was the fact that it was a raid on the very sacred heart of the Northumbrian religion
