The New Viking Age

During the mid tenth century Denmark was becoming a huge power-base in the what is referred to as the second Viking age. Viking raids on the British Isles became more ferocious. In 991 the Danish king Swein Forkbeard landed at Kent with some 90 Viking longboats, before claiming a cruel and decisive victory over the Anglo-Saxon forces. Swein Forkbeard led several other campaigns on England.
